The Lotus Eaters
A scene from The Odyssey in the style of Matisse. The lotus eaters belong to a distant island, where they live exclusively on magical lotus flowers. The flowers cause them to be completely indifferent about the world, and even about themselves. They live in a state of complete apathy, caring about nothing but the flowers to which they are addicted. In this picture, two of them are elevated to a state of lotus-induced ecstasy. A third has settled back to earth and has begun to melt, losing his identity entirely while still smiling.
