Are you a famous artist?
I will be, once people learn that you’ve added my work to your collection.
Are you selling prints or originals?
Both and neither.
Oh, that’s helpful.
Let me explain: All the work offered here is digital, which means that it doesn’t actually exist (I mean, in a tangible sense) until it’s printed onto paper or canvas. So I’m selling prints — but not the kind you find just everywhere! Those are reproductions of “real” paintings owned by somebody else. And usually they are printed several thousand at a time. I reserve the right to sell multiple copies of any given picture — but unless I do, you will own the art exclusively. So you’ll be buying what amounts to an original painting at a price that’s a mere fraction of what it might cost in traditional media.
So you don’t have stacks of these pictures, all ready for mailing?
No. They’re printed one at a time, upon your order.
Your pictures cost a lot more than a nice poster from a retail store. Why shouldn't I buy that instead?
Maybe you should, if you just want to add a little color to a room. But a poster isn't waterproof, light-resistant and acid-free. It's a very temporary thing.
What’s that unpronounceable word you call them?
They are called "giclees." That's pronounced "jee-clay." There’s an accent over one of the e’s, but I always forget which key to use for that. The giclee format involves the use of waterproof, lightproof inks. A hundred years from now, your giclee will look exactly as it did when you bought it. And it will be printed on an acid-free surface that won’t slowly yellow and decay. It will be a museum-quality masterpiece.
Does the art need framing?
Only if you choose a print on paper. Then you’ll want matting, framing and glass. Prints on canvas will not require framing. Omitting a frame will save you money, and the frameless look is actually more fashionable for modern art (though not necessarily for traditional art). For unframed prints on canvas, I recommend: 1) Matte finish 2) Gallery wrap 3) Mirrored border. But those are just my preferences.
May I start shopping now?
I thought you'd never ask.
